The laboratory studies functional colloidal systems with application in pure technologies, the properties of optical sol-gel materials such as sensors for ultraviolet radiation and light sources; the development of airgel composites for the storage of clean energy and thermal insulation, the development of anisotropic micro heat exchangers / regenerators / to increase the efficiency of modern heat pumps.
ACTIVITIES
Investigation of optical materials based on hybrid composites and their spectral properties; Development of new aerogel composites with potential application as materials for storage of clean energy and thermal insulation materials; Research of the properties of perspective materials with application in pure technologies; Development of new approaches in statistical mechanics with potential application for energy transmission and storage.

EQUIPMENT
Fluorimeter PE FL8500 is a modern spectral apparatus, allowing for precise study of the luminescence of various materials and biological systems when excited by ultraviolet and visible light. Potential areas of application of such equipment are the characterization of materials for optics and optoelectronics and the fluorescence analysis of pharmaceutical and biological products.
Fluorimeter PE FL8500 has high functionality related to emission spectra, with measurement with the ability to determine the quantum yield of solid samples / single crystals, coatings, polymers, powders / and liquids of different density and viscosity, temperature-dependent emission spectra, 3D spectra optical materials at different excitations, emission attenuation time of optical materials. The available equipment is unique for Bulgaria.
